The last several days have felt like a whirlwind of activity! The weekend before this last, we did a little party with our closest of friends at Build-A-Bear Workshop. The cost for each child was $10.00, thus being why we wanted to keep it small. We really thought too that Catie would enjoy a small party with her friends, but unfortunately she once again became a shrinking violet, which lead to her screaming, crying and refusing to take pictures. Yes, you guessed it. She was not a very good hostess. Nonetheless, I think our guests still had a good time.
Sunday, the day following the debaucle of the BABW Party, was Mother's Day! Unfortunately, the kids were not in a much better of moods this day either. It was a disaster of a day! I was determined though to make it my day, ha! We ate breakfast at Jimmy's Egg(love their sweet potato pancakes!), which went smoothly. Thankfully the kids waited to fall apart after breakfast. As much as they fought it, we made them sit for this photo. Why? Because my kids are the reason I am a Mom and I wanted a picture to remember. Breakfast and a picture, is it really too much to ask for?? The answer would seem to be yes. Happy Mother's Day!
The week following Mother's Day, Daddy was on furlough from work for one week(and without pay, ouch!). We decided to make the best of this time and finally knock out a project that has been on the "To Do List" for a couple years now. We knocked down the shed that was built into the side of the house, off of our carport. The door has been barely hanging on by a thread for some time now and after tearing it down, we discovered a lot of wood rot. Our timing could not have been better! We are also hoping that it will help with water drain off, so as to not flood the basement when it rains. The pictures below depict the mess we were left with after our destruction and after we cleaned up. With the cleaning up of it all, we discovered there was a nice path under all that mess and put down a bunch of cypress mulch to pretty it up a bit. Now its a nice new space! Next up, tearing out the back deck and painting the exterior.
After our destructive week, the weekend came upon us quickly! Our Niece April graduated from High School this past Sunday! I was honored to be her Guest of Honor at the Senior Banquet, even if I had to get up earlier than I am accustomed to(I woke up around 7:30am, have I ever mentioned I am not a morning person?). The banquet was at 9:00am, but we had to be there by 8:45am. April had to give a little speech about the positive influence I had been in her life. Her words were very touching and I almost balled like a baby, thankfully I kept my composure(thank you April, your words will never be forgotten!). I also had allowed my Niece to drive me for the first time ever! Talk about an odd feeling after being used to driving her around for years! She really is growing up to be one fine young lady! Her plans are to go on and study Pre-Law starting at Butler Community College. I know she can accomplish anything her heart desires. She is a strong and intelligent young lady that has faced a lot of adversity, but she knows too that she has a lot of support cheering her on. We are so proud of you April and we look forward to watching you go into your adult life!
I think that mostly covers our past couple busy weeks! And what a couple weeks it has been!! From celebrating our baby's fourth birthday to watching a girl I've known since she was five, graduate High School. Time sure does fly!
